headache after hot yoga
Hot Yoga gave me a headache. Hot Yoga gave me a headache. Yesterday, I attended a hot yoga class (vinyasa) and found it to be very tough. I was out of breath quite often, I felt asphyxiated, and I had to take frequent breaks to drink water. At the end of the class, I had a headache that lasted all day. I'm not new at yoga. I have done regularly (not hot) vinyasa yoga in the past, and I love it. I never had a headache problem. Has anyone else experienced headaches after hot yoga? Any advice? I started with non-hot yoga and now taught (and took) exclusively hot/heated classes. Drink water. More than you think. Before, during and after. Being out of breath/sufficiency is common when you're no longer taking those deep breaths, so slow it down. It's okay to go at your own pace. I'd like 500% more of a student to take breaks (I do it all the damn time!) than to let you feel worse than when you arrived. It takes a few times to adjust to most bodies. I've been practicing hot for a year and I'm still getting dizzy sometimes. It may not be for you, and it's okay. I'll go with "hot yoga sucks ass" and choose a different exercise (and more awesome for you). You will adjust the extra hours, it is a hot and stuffed room and if you are not used to it going to be pretty hard on your body; just stay hydrated and give you another chance. If you keep feeling so bad after the second or third time, maybe it's not the class for you. I'd try a sports drink. I've had the same problem when stumbling on the hot weather, and drinking watered Gatorade has made the problem go completely. I like a 50/50 mix so it's not too sweet or sticky, but I still have the benefits of salt. I'd say I drank it an hour earlier, scumbag. I found that I felt nauseous if I had sugar in my stomach. Another thing to consider is that your clothes may have been restricting your breathing. I got dehydrated from headaches when I took hot yoga while I was underwater. This can be a contributing factor to you. You might need more electrolytes. You're probably sweating a lot and smooth water sometimes needs a boost! Pick up some packages of electrolytes. I like ElectoMix by EmergenC. I keep a couple in my bag and my yoga bag. All you need is a cup or bottle of water to mix the dust and you're ready to go! Nuun manufactures electrolyte tablets. They reform the latex their product a year or two ago and tastes very well. Same with ElectoMix, mix it with water and you're ready. ElectoMixNuun Reformed your product, do not reform the latex. :) I am on the mobile and will not allow me to save changes when I try to edit my post. I had the same problem when I did hot yoga. He finally left after a couple of weeks of consistent classes. I made sure I stayed extra-hydrated before and after class. And one last tip: there is no drink before training before hot yoga. You'll die... I tried it once, and it came out with a heat/dehydration headache. I am familiar with them because I used to work outdoors in the desert at temperatures above 100F, sometimes more than 110. And with that background, I decided that hot yoga is not worth getting in. It's cutting the heat exhaustion, and the more often and severely you get it, the more sensitive you get back to it. If you're used to it and drink ridiculous amounts of water, you'll almost certainly be fine. But I've never heard a persuasive argument that he has benefits on non-hot yoga, so I'm staying away. Yeah, sometimes I have hot yoga headaches, especially when I'm in my period. I usually drink 1.5 L of water during the day/all at the same time in the morning before thinking about going to a class. I usually make sure that I'm finished consuming this water about 1 hour before class so I have time to urinate some of it. Besides, while I know it's a fitness class and we're supposed to be working on eating well and exercising well, if I'm in my period I need to have sugar before class. The fruit is great, but sometimes it bothers me during the morning classes because it is acid (unless it is a banana) and I end up getting an annoying mummy. So, instead, I'm just gonna do one of those helloween-sizes (the little ones you can fill a bowl with) chocolate bars in my mouth and have that as my sugar source. Coconut water is also useful before and after class! Take frequent breaks. Yeah. Sometimes, if it's not a good day, I'm gonna stop half the class and then just lie there until I'm done. It's not that I do it often, but sometimes your body needs a break and you need to listen to it. As for the heat, it took me about a class month 3-4 times a week to get used to it. Now I love getting into the hot room. MembersOnline
